Holbrook, AZ: On Thursday, May 9, 2019 Navajo County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of a male subject shooting a firearm at a neighboring residence south of Winslow. It was reported to the Sheriff’s Office a bullet struck the home and penetrated the exterior of the residence of the reporting party. When Deputies arrived on scene, the reporting party in this case stated Eric Hawkins had made threats of physical violence toward them earlier in the morning. The reporting party stated they were in their shed on their property and as they were coming out of the shed they heard at least 5 gunshots near their property. During the investigation it showed at least one of the rounds hit the shed on the reporting party’s property, at the time of the shooting one of the homeowners was in the shed. Deputies went to Eric’s residence to contact Eric who was identified by the reporting party as the shooter. Eric stated he thought the reporting party shot at his property, so he returned 3-5 shots in retaliation. The Deputies investigation showed no shots were fired at Eric as well as the other party involved denied shooting at Eric. Eric also stated he fired shots at a drone that was flown over his property belonging to the reporting party just before this incident occurred of Eric shooting at their shed. The investigation also showed Eric was a convicted felon in possession of a firearm at the time of the shooting. When Deputies took Eric into custody, Eric was wearing body armor. Eric was booked into the Navajo County Jail on several felony charges including aggravated assault. Eric is currently being held on a $100,000 bond.
